Obama is working at warp speed to “degrade and destroy” our economic, healthcare, educational, financial and military institutions—this is what he is really talking about—the ISIS beheadings just happen to be a convenient springboard.
‘Degrade and destroy’ aptly describes his domestic agenda, not what he intends to do to jihadist murderers.
From Marx to Lenin to Alinsky to Axelrod to Obama, words are everything—and the more Aesopian the words, the better.[i]
Obama and his administration used the phrase ‘destroy and degrade’ in speeches twice during the week of the 13th anniversary of 9/11.
On the eve of the 13th anniversary of 9/11, in outlining his plan to defeat the Islamic militant state responsible for the beheading of two American journalists, Obama said:
My fellow Americans – tonight, I want to speak to you about what the United States will do with our friends and allies to degrade and ultimately destroy the terrorist group known as ISIL.
Wimpy response? No. It’s calculated and precise. Not only does it stir up Americans to demand action, which he can then take unilaterally at their behest, he also gets to speak directly to his in-the-know followers.
Later, in the September 10 speech, Obama transitioned to the American economy. How bizarre. But not for Marxists. The conventional reason for a speech is often accompanied by unconventional detours that lead us to the real meaning and intent of the speaker.
In true Aesopian progressive form, Obama begins his speech talking about the threat of ISIS and then veers into domestic issues to send a message to his devoted true believers that he has not wavered from his goal to fundamentally destroy the American economy, as we have known it.
Then, a day later, the White House published a statement reacting to the decapitation of British Journalist David Haines at the hands of ISIS.
Obama promised to “degrade and destroy” ISIS:
The United States strongly condemns the barbaric murder of UK citizen David Haines by the terrorist group ISIL. Our hearts go out to the family of Mr. Haines and to the people of the United Kingdom. The United States stands shoulder to shoulder tonight with our close friend and ally in grief and resolve. We will work with the United Kingdom and a broad coalition of nations from the region and around the world to bring the perpetrators of this outrageous act to justice, and to degrade and destroy this threat to the people of our countries, the region and the world.
The same phrase appears in the 1929 Communist International Programme:
The ultimate aim of the Communist International is to replace world capitalist economy by a world system of Communism. Communist society, the basis for which has been prepared by the whole course of historical development, is mankind’s only way out, for it alone can abolish the contradictions of the capitalist system which threaten to degrade and destroy the human race.
The prime objective of this administration is the destruction of capitalism.

(New York: Pocket Books, Inc. 1958). p. 93. ‘“Mention must be made, to understand this double talk, of a communist deceptive device called Aesopian language…Lenin and his associates before 1917, when living in exile, made frequent use of “Aesopianism.” Much of their propaganda was written in a “roundabout” and elusive style to pass severe Czarist censorship. They desired revolution but could not say so. They had to resort to hints, theoretical discussions, even substituting words, which, though fooling the censor, were understood by the “initiated,” that is, individuals trained in Party terminology.”’
